Shopping mall owners are adding ever-increasing amounts of leisure facilities to schemes in an attempt to increase footfall, and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has unveiled one of the most ambitious projects of this type yet — a 3,000-capacity concert and events venue.

The world’s second-largest mall owner has teamed up with Broadwick Venues, which owns and operates the trendy Printworks venue in South East London, to create a new venue as part of the £600M extension of the Westfield London scheme in West London.

The venue, called Exhibition London, will be built at the Grade II-listed Dimco East building, which serves as a bus garage. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield will repurpose the building, which was built in 1899 as an electricity generating station for the London Underground. It was also used as the set for the Acme Factory in the film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?".

Spanning two floors, the 34K SF events and hospitality venue has a total standing capacity of 3,000 and will boast multiple rooms, formats and configurations and on-site food and drinks vendors. It will open at the end of this year.
