One of the largest data centre owners and developers in the UK has put in place a giant new debt package, some of which will fund its expansion.
Virtus Data Centres said it secured a £2.45B finance facility from a consortium of 13 banks led by BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Societe Generale and Standard Chartered.
It is one of the largest-ever data centre debt facilities completed in the UK, Virtus said in a statement.
The debt includes a £1.2B green capex facility, available through both term and revolving tranches, which Virtus said provides it with flexibility to fund expansion and support its growth ambitions.
Virtus has 18 data centres in the UK totalling more than 300 megawatts of power and all clustered on the outskirts of London.
Its expansion plans in the UK include building a 78 MW campus at Saunderton in Buckinghamshire and adding new capacity at its London19 campus in Slough.
The company is also expanding into Italy for the first time and is building a €3B (£2.6B) data centre in Germany.
Virtus is majority-owned by Singaporean data centre firm STTGDC, and Macquarie Asset Management bought a 40% stake in the business in 2023.
Debt capital markets for data centres in the UK are on a hot streak.
Equinix raised £280M of debt in August, secured against two data centres valued at £500M in Slough.
