Bisnow's first-ever Houston Power Women event is just a few days away. In the lead-up to the big day, we're highlighting the women we'll be honoring. Cresa principal Sue Rogers is the latest in our series.

Working as a tenant rep for more than 30 years, Rogers is known by her peers for the tireless dedication to both real estate and the Houston community. Rogers has worked with Cresa for more than two decades, and she now helps to lead the firm's Houston office.

Bisnow: Who was the first person to teach you how to be business savvy?

Rogers: My first job in commercial real estate was at the Horne Co. where I worked with the very “hard-charging” and perfectionist Gerry Trione. He taught me that you have to get it right the first time and to always be on top of your game.

Bisnow: What is the biggest challenge for the next generation of women?

Rogers: My personal challenge to the next generation would be to utilize the work of previous generations of women leaders and rather than taking their work for granted, to push harder and further than where we are today. Have your eye on the prize and never give up!

Bisnow: What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership?

Rogers: The most significant barrier to female leadership, I believe, is being heard. Take your place at the table, and speak from a place of knowledge and with confidence.

Bisnow: What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?

Rogers: There are so many answers to this question, but most importantly, have a vision for the future, be inclusive and encourage everybody to be their best selves.

Bisnow: What are the most important decisions you make as a leader of your organization?

Rogers: The decision to set higher expectations of myself and my team, to lead by example, lead with a positive outlook to create a positive environment and focus on doing those things for the greater good instead of one’s self.
