Claude Wynn, chairman of the embattled Montrose Management District, will resign at the end of the year.

The resignation comes in the wake of a judge's order earlier this month issuing a temporary restraining order preventing the district from issuing, collecting or spending assessments from commercial property owners, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The ruling was the latest in a long line of legal battles between the district and the property owners it assesses. Property owners allege the district did not take proper steps to establish itself and are seeking its dissolution.

A judge ruled in favor of the property owners in October, ordering the district to pay back the nearly $6.6M it assessed. The new suit, on which the restraining order was granted, claims the district collected an additional $1.4M after the ruling and asserts that money should be paid back as well.

The restraining order against the district expires Dec. 25, but another hearing for a temporary injunction has been set for Friday.
