McCord Development founder Rick McCord passed away last week at the age of 70, 15 months after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of kidney cancer.
Rick loved adventure and helping people, and was known for pushing everyone hard because he believed that each person has great potential. He was raised in the countryside outside of Shreveport and was very proud of his Army service in Korea.
His dedication to his faith was well-known—he’s a dedicated parishioner at Christ the King Presbyterian Church and helped found Episcopal High School, and ministered to orphans in Russia and Africa every year for two decades. Pictured: Rick at McCord Development’s 40th anniversary party.
1,200 people celebrated Rick's life at his funeral Monday, where the family asked everyone to wear bright colors to honor his passion, vibrancy and love of color. (Even pink, as you can see in this photo with his wife, Jane.) His son Ryan, president of McCord Development, joked that Rick would’ve wanted him to sell some real estate to people in attendance.
McCord has been building out Generation Park, which is a testament to Rick’s reputation as a visionary: Some experts believe it will become Houston’s next hot submarket.
