The annual IIDA Product Runway architectural fashion show was held at the Revention Music Center in Downtown Houston on Friday. Houston's architecture and interior design professionals came together to raise money for a good cause by creating fashion from everyday industry materials. This year's theme was "Avant Art." Kirksey took home Best In Show with its submission pictured above.

The Kirksey team was assigned Modernism with Georgia O'Keefe as the inspiration artist. Kirksey created a colorful dress, reminiscent of the painter’s abstraction of flowers. More than 150 man-hours were spent to individually cut and sew 800 rubber tiles. The collar is made entirely of rubber flooring and lined with 6-gauge copper wire to give it structure. The dress, modeled by Lori Amador, a member of Kirksey's Science & Tech team, weighs 50 pounds.

Pictured above is the Gensler team's garment inspired by the art movement Symbolism and the paintings of Gustav Klimt. Their soft and hard goods were task chair seating and wood laminate veneer. The garment required more than 100 sheets of gold foil to create the effect on the dress and 50 hours of laser cutting to create the pieces sewn on the inside and the headpiece. The team was Ellie Boggs, Emily Cerniglia, Amber Porterfield, Mark Talma and Aaron Westerman.
