Kirksey had some company for its 29th annual tree planting event this weekend—among the hundreds of volunteers were new Mayor Sylvester Turner, and members of City Council, Houston Parks and Recreation, Uptown Houston TIRZ and Trees for Houston. They added 300 trees in Memorial Park, kicking off the park's ecological and habitat restoration (part of the 2015 master plan) in partnership with Memorial Park Conservancy. Since the event's inception, Kirksey has planted more than 9,700 trees across the Houston metro.
