While your kids watch August slip away with dread, we know many of you are gleefully anticipating hunting season. On your next trip, invite these real estate pros; they’ve got some of the best hunting dogs in town.

Alamo Title VP Mike Rozell particularly loves that his German short-haired pointer Bailey is so great with 2-year-old daughter Kinley. (Mike and his wife are adding to their brood—they’re expecting a baby boy in nine weeks.) Bailey’s a big quail hunter, but her favorite part might just be riding in Mike’s truck with her head out the window (which looks hilarious with her big and floppy ears). Mike gets extra kudos from us: He not only suggested the hunting dog list, but rounded up the entries himself.

This photo captured an abundance of hunting prowess—Cushman & Wakefield associate director Will Condrey (standing), his yellow lab Lucy, Jason Long, Alamo Title EVP Lucky Long, and his black lab Tess. Will tells us Lucy is about as good as it gets. She’s strong in the field, extremely obedient, and caring and sweet. She’s larger than most male labs and an excellent hunter—she picked up most of the doves pictured. Lucky says Tess is a true veteran out there—the 8-year-old lab listens well as long as you’re yelling at her from the left side. (Her right ear had to be removed a few years ago due to a tumor.)

BPI Realty VP David Ferguson and his black lab Jake enjoyed a packed decade of hunting together before Jake passed away in 2012. David tells us Jake—full name Watermarks (Jazzin’em up) Jake—received his field hunting certs by age 3, but they grew tired of traveling from one competition to the next and retired to the woods and water. Jake retrieved over 3,000 birds (and nearly 20,000 tennis balls), and David says he was the most patient, determined hunter he ever had the pleasure of sitting with.

IDI senior leasing rep Ben Newell’s black lab Gus looks a little guilty for having retrieved so many ducks, but Ben tells us he’s really just afraid of getting left behind. (Gus will sit on the four-wheeler or in the ranger all day so he doesn’t get abandoned.) Ben and Gus have been hunting together for seven seasons now, taking on doves, ducks, quail, and deer.

Prologis SVP Ross Matthews’ German short-haired pointer McCoy loves hunting pen-raised quail since the action rarely stops. He also loves retrieving dove and duck (especially in Austin, Colorado, and Bee Counties), but wishes his owner and friends were better shots. He’s also happy to extend his skills outside of the field—he fetches the newspaper and delivers it to Ross’s elderly neighbor across the street. McCoy also enjoys chasing light spots, playing Frisbee, and getting tons of attention. His lifelong dream is to catch a squirrel.

The Mathis Group founder Joe Mathis loves going duck hunting with his yellow lab Jadie. The 5-year-old, who also goes by Bear, has retrieved over 3,000 birds (including about 1,600 ducks) in her illustrious career.
