The Dublin sky was populated with 79 construction cranes on 1 February, a 135% increase on the same day in 2016 when the survey was launched by the Irish Times.

Of those 61 cranes were situated on the south of the Liffey, suggesting much of the building and development work is taking place on the south side.

That figure was up four from last month, and outstrips the north side where 18 cranes were seen.

Two significant schemes have entered into the construction phase south of the Liffey.

At 494K SF the ESB headquarters at Fitzwilliam Street is one of the largest redevelopment schemes in the capital. Clearance work has now begun.

The former An Post site behind the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in the south docklands is being transformed into a new office scheme of 204K SF. The new office space is one of the last few development opportunities left in the area. It was put up for sale for €150M in June by owners Marlet and M&G.
