| We got a bird's eye view yesterday of the THP courtesy of Zebra Air. (The helicopter is painted with zebra stripes making it a great accessory, too.) The park projects a $350M economic impact in its first 10 years of operation. Flying over Loop 12, we learned the apartments (top left) were a result of the Trinity River Audubon Center's location there in 2008 and that Trinity River Corridor plans are spurring development across Dallas. Businesses are popping up along the end of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge on Singleton, even as the bridge is still under construction. We're also told international developers and investors are expressing interest in the land along the Trinity for future projects. | |
| We landed long enough to catch up with Texas Horse Park ED Jaymie Sattiewhite, with park board member and Zebra Air co-owner Mary Rhoades, and Trinity Trust prez Gail Thomas at the Trinity River Audubon Center. Jaymie tells us that the THP will ultimately include horse trails, polo fields, a cross-country course as well as covered and uncovered arenas. The THP will attract hotels and restaurants following its opening to meet the needs of the equestrian competitors and visitors, Gail adds. | |
| We snapped the Trinity River Audubon Center on 6k acres of the Great Trinity Forest. Jaymie says the City of Dallas issued a $1M challenge grant to the THP, which has raised $920k so far. The deadline to hit that mark is Saturday. Design (by Brown, Reynolds and Watford) should begin this fall with construction starting by 4Q11 with a completion date of 4Q12. | |
