| Earth Day turns the big 4-0 tomorrow, so JLL has issued 40 ways to make the office a greener place. We pulled out just a few for owners: include reasonable sustainability provisions in standard lease agreements, and try to accommodate tenants with their own green criteria; require management follow sustainable procedures as much as possible and to report back; and institute a building-wide recycling program, and if possible, establish an area for sorting recyclables before they leave the building. | |
| Another way you can make a difference: Use a coffee mug and reusable water bottle instead of paper cups and disposable plastic bottles; turn off your computer at night and unplug it—even an idle adaptor draws energy; bring your laptop to meetings to avoid printing out presentation materials; when working late, use task lighting at your desk instead of lighting an entire floor; place plants in your office space to help absorb indoor pollution (and it makes for good company); and turn out conference room lights after meetings. Also, reading online publications, instead of say, paper-based ones, couldn't hurt either. |
