Metro Chicago's BOMA 360 Buildings

Bisnow's been in Seattle, producing the official show daily for BOMA International's Every Building Conference & Expo. It's where we spotted Commercial Advisors Asset Services' Dan Chancey (holding plaque) announcing that 160 buildings nationwide achieved BOMA 360 Performance Program designation the past year. A Kingsley Associates survey found that there's higher tenant satisfactionon 52 out of 54 categories for BOMA 360 buildings, and a designee said that in order to remain competitive, the designation must be in an owner's arsenal. Leading the overall BOMA 360 count: CBRE with 60 properties, Brookfield Office Properties with 43, and Piedmont Office Realty Trust with 29. The top cities: Houston, Dallas, and metro Washington, DC. Chicago-area buildings that have achieved the distinction include: 200 South Wacker, 222 South Riverside Plaza, 20 North LaSalle, Highland Landmark III (Downers Grove), and Windy Point I (Schaumburg).

Also at BOMA, we heard George Mason University econ guru Steve Fuller, who gave us an overview of Where America Goes To Work: The Contribution of Office Building Operations to the Economy, 2012. The study found that the 9.9B SF of commercial office space served by BOMA’s 93 local associations (including BOMA Chicago and BOMA Suburban Chicago) generated $79.7B in direct operating expenditures and provided workspace for 44.3 million office jobs. Altogether, that led to $61B in new earnings for workers, and for each $1M in expenditures, 19.6 jobs were supported. (The other 0.4 must have been on lunch break.)
