Amazon to Place Warehouse on Goose Island

Amazon announced it's putting its first Chicago warehouse on Goose Island, an industrial corridor on the city's Near North Side. The company has leased a 51.9K SF warehouse at 1111 N Cherry Ave, Crain's reports. Last year Amazon announced plans to enter Illinois with at least one distribution center and hire about 1,000 full-time employees. It could also be planning another large distribution center in Joilet, IL. The new distribution centers could help Amazon keep pace with demand for speedy deliveries and the growth of online commerce. Amazon also began collecting a sales tax from Illinois customers for the first time this year. [CCB]
