Rita's Italian Ice opened its first Massachusetts location at 170 Everett Ave in Chelsea. The chain, based in suburban Philly, specializes in Italian ice and frozen custard, and has more than 600 stores in the US and elsewhere.
Last year, Ice Treats Inc, owned by entrepreneur Patricia Shelton of Roxbury, inked a franchise deal to bring 30 Rita's locations to greater Boston by 2023, the Boston Business Journal reports. The shops will be in Suffolk, Middlesex, Norfolk and Plymouth counties, and Ice Treats also plans to roll out mobile Rita’s units in Downtown Boston. [BBJ]
