The social media giant officially opened its new 130K SF office at 100 Binney St. in Kendall Square Wednesday, and the meeting rooms play right into Boston culture.
There is the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” room for “Cheers” fans. Hopeless 1990s rom-com romantics will enjoy convening in “Next Stop, Wonderland.” But the @OnlyInBos Twitter account picked up on how Facebook clearly has a thing for Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline,” a Fenway Park seventh inning classic.

Facebook moved into the Alexandria Real Estate Equities-developed building last month after operating from an office nearby at One Broadway in Kendall Square. While its old office opened in 2013 with just seven employees, Facebook’s new space has room for around 650. It employs roughly 200 people in Boston today.
"Like our other Facebook offices around the world, Binney Street provides a large, open floor plan that enables our teams to be collaborative and transparent,” Facebook Boston Site Lead Laney Zamore said in a post about the office opening. “These teams play a central role in the development of several of Facebook's global products and technologies.”

The Cambridge Facebook team works on projects like improving web connectivity in developing parts of the world, enhancing Facebook and data infrastructure and creating tools for web developers. The company also has partnerships with Roxbury and Bunker Hill community colleges on digital marketing classes and digital training programs.
Facebook’s expansion comes amid several big technology firms expanding their local presence. Amazon is expanding into a 500K SF Seaport office building, and Boston Properties has been given approval on an 18-story glass tower for Google in Kendall Square.
