2nd Annual Battle of the Biotech Bands

The biotech industry, a major driver of the region’s commercial real estate market, also has some hot musicians in its ranks. They kept the crowd of 770 rockin’ at the 2nd Annual Battle of the Biotech Bands at the club Royale in the Theater District, which raised $60,000 for three charities. Charlie Farren (left) was a judge with DJ Candy O’Terry and pop music critic Steve Morse. Perkins & Will principal Bill Harris (right) and wife Marcia launched the fundraising event last year. Entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik hosted. Co-chairs, Sylvia Beaulieu of The Richmond Group and Carly Bassett of Total Office, say the 38 sponsors made it all possible.

The competing bands—Aural Gavage (Momenta Pharmaceuticals), Molecular Groove (Perkin Elmer), and Bad Idea (Merrimack Pharmaceuticals)—each donated their winnings to a charity of their choice. The winner, Bad Idea, gave its winnings of $30,000 to Dream Day, an org on Cape Cod that sponsors a summer camp for families with severely ill children. Merrimack, recently expanded at One Kendall Square where it occupies 109k SF.
