As the audacious attempt to assassinate Sergei and Yulia Skripal continues to reverbate around the world, a little slice of the hidden world of espionage has surfaced in Birmingham.
A bowling green near some football fields in Edgbaston could be Birmingham's most unlikely secret addresses.
Close examination of aerial photographs of the lawn behind the Police Training College, Pershore Road, is in fact a secret control room, the Secret Bases website reported on 18 March.
The 60-desk control room is able to monitor CCTV images from across Birmingham, and was built between 2009 and 2010 in anticipation of the Pope's state visit in 2010 and the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.
Today the bunker is believed to be a learning centre.
