Plans for a £286M HS2 integrated transport hub at Birmingham International station have taken a leap forward.
Solihull council has approved the business case for the project, designed to open in December 2025, a year ahead of the HS2 high-speed rail service.
The scheme is intended to unlock £114M a year of increased gross domestic product in the 400-acre U.K. Central Hub scheme next door.
Last month the Urban Growth Company unveiled its development framework for £16.B of infrastructure investment around the Hub area, including Birmingham Airport, the National Exhibition Centre, a Jaguar Land Rover facility and Birmingham Business Park.
The framework paves the way for 8.3M SF of new commercial floor space as part of a £4.1B boost to GDP.
The new station will be funded by £50M from Transport for the West Midlands' HS2 Connectivity Package and £29M from the West Midlands Combined Authority.
