‘The Jetsons Come To The River Walk!’: How JMJ Is Transforming San Antonio’s Skyline

JMJ Development is bringing a high-rise luxury apartment tower to San Antonio’s River Walk. One of the largest builders of luxury real estate in the US, JMJ is promising all the latest in upscale amenities, technology and convenience to future residents of JMJ Towers River Walk. We asked CEO Tim Barton, who will be speaking at our Future of Downtown San Antonio summit next Wednesday, about the company’s inspiration for what will be one of the tallest buildings in San Antonio.

Tim, pictured above, tells Bisnow finding a site right on the river was like hitting the mother lode.

“We are a relationship-driven developer so we didn’t go looking in various markets for the ideal location," he says. "In this case, we got a call to look at the site for a hotel. After we studied the market a little bit more and saw the data on multifamily, we decided that multifamily was the best option for the city, for the River Walk, and for us.”

JMJ Towers River Walk will feature a high-tech automated parking system, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and an artfully designed swimming pool with connecting clubhouse. Retail space will also be an integral component of the project, offering tenants River Walk access. JMJ plans to incorporate an upscale restaurant as well. Tim enthusiastically describes the development as “the Jetsons come to the River Walk!

Downtown San Antonio is becoming more vibrant every day,” Tim says. “There aren’t really any high-rises so the opportunity to bring this type of product to San Antonio is exciting.”

The 30-story tower will include 201 units in studio, one- and two-bedroom configurations. Its prime location, as indicated in the image above, will put residents within walking distance of the Bexar County Courthouse, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and numerous historical attractions.

The City of San Antonio is over the moon for JMJ Towers River Walk. “We look forward to a great collaborative opportunity with JMJ Development to further add to the unique skyline of San Antonio,” Councilman Roberto C. Trevino said in a statement. “We welcome the thoughtful approach that JMJ Development is taking to jobs, architecture and community input.”

Rick Brendler of B & A Architects will lead the project. It will be at 112-120 Villita St, and is currently in preliminary construction phases.
