Online ticket marketplace StubHub plans to open a new office hub in Atlanta, Bisnow can confirm.

The company told employees at its Draper, Utah, office last month that it would shutter that facility and move it to Atlanta, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. Hundreds of employees would be laid off, while a “select few” would be relocated, according to the Tribune.

A spokesperson for StubHub, who declined to be identified because they weren't authorized to speak publicly, told Bisnow the company doesn't yet have office space in Atlanta, but it does plan to open a new customer service center in Georgia's capital. The spokesperson declined to comment further.

The company has 13 Atlanta-based hybrid jobs listed on its careers page, including two recruiters. It is unclear how many total jobs StubHub plans to relocate from Utah or hire new in Atlanta.

StubHub opened its office in the Silicon Slopes market of Utah in 2017, but its lease expires at the end of this month.

The company, which relocated its headquarters from San Francisco to New York City last year, told employees in an email that relocating its customer service operations to Atlanta would enable it to better serve more customers in Europe because of its time zone, Building Salt Lake reported.

“Atlanta is highly regarded for its industry-leading talent and expanding entertainment and service industry,” StubHub President Nayaab Islam wrote in an email to employees reported by Building Salt Lake.

StubHub has no office presence in Atlanta, according to Avison Young's Southeast head of market intelligence, Sara Barnes. Multiple high-level office market insiders told Bisnow Wednesday they were unaware that StubHub was even looking for space.

Depending on how much space StubHub is seeking, it is likely to be a hot commodity in an office market that has become increasingly tenant-friendly. Atlanta's core markets had a 30% office vacancy rate at the end of June, according to Cushman & Wakefield, and another 1.3M SF under construction.
