Sterling Bay Files Plans For Westside Office Tower

A prominent Chicago developer is looking to lay the groundwork for a new office building in Atlanta's Westside neighborhood.

Sterling Bay Cos. received approval for a land disturbance permit for 1050 Marietta St., to prepare to go vertical on a 203K SF office building with nearly 13K SF of ground-floor retail, according to the permit filed with the city of Atlanta on Dec. 17.

While the permit does not identify Sterling Bay by name, Sterling Bay associate Neil Ostrander filed a special administrative permit with the city to allow for a mixed-use development on three adjoining parcels totaling more than an acre at 1026, 1050 and 1060 Marietta St. And WhatNowAtlanta previously reported that Sterling Bay was seeking to develop a creative loft office project there.

The site is across Northside Drive from the Georgia Tech campus and next door to the Brady Apartments and the Asian eatery Food Terminal.

This is Sterling Bay's latest effort at development in the hot Westside market. The company also plans a 14-story office tower a block over next to Brickworks on the site of a former Carvana dealership, WhatnowAtlanta reported in April.

Sterling Bay owns and manages more than 13M SF of commercial space nationally, including Tyson's headquarters and Google's Midwest headquarters, both in Chicago. The firm also recently made inroads into the life sciences real estate market with the $576M purchase of City Office REIT's San Diego life sciences office portfolio.
