Midtown Atlanta has attracted yet another large office from a tech company seeking to tap into the area's talent base.
Fortune 500 semiconductor maker Micron Technology is opening a 93K SF design center in Midtown next month that would create 500 jobs and include offices, a data center, and research and development operations, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday morning.
The building where Micron plans to open wasn't disclosed in the press release. The new Atlanta location is part of the company's global technology and product development network that includes existing centers in multiple countries as well as its headquarters in Boise, Idaho, according to the press release.
The company plans to hire workers in memory and storage research, computer hardware, electrical and electronics engineering, modeling and simulation, and business development.
“Atlanta has become an emerging hub for high-tech, characterized by a rich culture and university ecosystem,” Micron Executive Vice President of Technology and Products Scott DeBoer said in the release. “Establishing a memory design center in Atlanta enables us to partner closely with world-class universities on leading-edge technology development, and expand our talent pool with people who can bring different ideas, backgrounds, and experiences to our R&D and innovation efforts.”
Georgia Department of Economic Development Project Manager Barton Lowrey represented the agency's Global Commerce division on this project in partnership with Invest Atlanta, Select Fulton, the Metro Atlanta Chamber, Georgia Tech and Georgia Power, according to the press release.
