Developer Edens has revealed the first look at its vision to redevelop an ailing suburban Atlanta mall into apartments, townhomes, a hotel, shops, restaurants and pocket parks.
Edens unveiled long-anticipated renderings Tuesday evening during an online presentation that shows the fate of the 622K SF, 58-year-old enclosed mall, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reported. The renderings show new pedestrian trails and small parks between apartments, restaurants and townhouses.

Edens previously filed plans with state planners to redevelop the mall into 300K SF of retail, 200K SF of office, a 150-room hotel, 1,700 apartment units and 100 townhouses, a project that DeKalb County officials said they were told would be akin to Edens' Mosaic District redevelopment in Fairfax, Virginia.
“It’s really that legacy of community that we look to build on here as we think about the next 50 to 60 to 70 years going forward,” said Edens Senior Vice President Herbert Ames during the public telecast, the ABC reported.

Edens purchased the mall for $24.2M from the Sterling Organization last September and has largely remained silent on its plans for the property up until this week. Behind the scenes, Edens has been working with DeKalb County officials, neighborhood groups and MARTA on possible features to its project.
Ames said during the presentation that the project could start construction in 2023 and would take a total of eight years to complete, the ABC reported.
