Piedmont Atlanta Hospital Reveals $600M Project Details

Piedmont Atlanta Hospital has unveiled its new Buckhead campus expansion—as well as the 31 industry players involved in the project.

Piedmont Healthcare officials revealed the look of the $603M project at the site of the current Sheffield Medical Building. Piedmont officials say the organization plans to break ground in January on the expansion, which will be done in phases—pending a Certificate of Need approval with the Georgia Department of Community Health—over the course of 10 years, with the initial phase including the development of a new tower.

“The tower will offer a patient-centric, integrated healthcare experience that will improve all aspects of patient care at Piedmont Atlanta, both in the new tower and the existing campus,” Piedmont Atlanta Hospital CEO Dr. Patrick Battey (below) says. “Soon, approximately 45% of the current space at Piedmont Atlanta will exceed a typical life expectancy of 40 years. This, combined with ongoing inpatient capacity issues, necessitates new and additional space."

The project is practically a list of who's who in Atlanta commercial real estate. The 31 companies involved include CBRE acting as program manager; Brasfield & Gorrie as the GC; HKS as the architect; Meadows & Ohly as the building manager; Kimley-Horn as the civil and traffic engineer; Morris, Manning & Martin handling the CON and zoning issues; and longtime CRE PR go-to firm The Wilbert Group.

We first reported Piedmont was working on expansion plans that involved the 78k SF MOB at 1938 Peachtree St in South Buckhead in February.
