A 36k SF dormant former data center just south of West End Mall in South Fulton County sat unwanted for 13 years. Now it has risen from the grave. If you needed proof that corporations are moving to Atlanta (and covet bandwidth), here it is.
Herndon, Va-based Edgeconnex has purchased 1003 Donnelly Ave, next door to both the Verizon and Level 3 data centers, and along the West End's rich fiber trunk line. The company plans to open a colo facility to enter the Atlanta data center market. The deal was brokered by Richard Bowers & Co's Tarkenton Thompson for the receivership and CBRE's Wendy McArthur (one of our Power Women, here with her children) for Edgeconnex.
Things are looking up in Atlanta's data center market. According to a JLL report, demand is outpacing the city's 1.5M SF of supply, as corporations expand here, highlighted by Twitter's recent deal to lease 80k SF of data center space. That's prompting others to dust off development plans, including Bytegrid, Equinix, Telx, Peer1 and Digital Realty Trust, according to the report. We spoke with Tarkenton (right, with his nephew) who has been marketing this former warehouse for some time. It was converted to a colo facility in 2001 for Global NAPS. Tarkenton sold it for $600k or $16.76/SF.
