Buckhead CID Executive Director Jim Durrett, right, is entitled to be smiling: He tells us the next phase of the Peachtree Boulevard project is getting underway. We snapped this of Jim and Project Manager Brian McHugh, as they told us that survey work begins next week on the stretch from Maggiano?s north to Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd. (where Duke and Pope & Land?s 3630 Peachtree was just completed). After that, Atlanta Gas Light will begin relocating lines so that project contractor Infrasource Construction can get started. This second phase is about twice as long as the first phase (which extends south from GA 400 to Maple Street) and is projected to finish by spring 2012, with no lane closures and minimal disruptions during holiday shopping seasons for  Lenox Square  and Phipps Plaza. Thanks to this project being ?shovel-ready,? 68% of the $25.75M project is funded by the stimulus program, with the remainder coming from Buckhead CID funds and the City of Atlanta.
