| KSU's director of residential life Jeff Cooper tells us that he's awaiting word whether the foundation will approve the financing of a 415-bed student housing facility on the campus that will open next fall. And with enrollment jumping by at least 500 students every new year, it's something desperately needed, Jeff says. | Whether or not the foundation approves, the private sector already sees a perceived need for more student housing. As we reported last week, Birmingham-based Capstone Cos is about to start construction on a 217-unit student housing complex across from the campus (on land pictured above). Of course, on-campus student housing is still a relatively new thing for the university, which only opened its first facility in 2002 when it transitioned into an on-campus university. Since then, the campus-living student population has risen to more than 3,000 with four student housing complexes, Jeff tells us. | |
