MAJOR LITERATURE!

We caught Grubb & Ellis' Tom Miller  last night, dominating the bar at New York Prime. That's because Tom was recently profiled in a new book, Brokers Who Dominate: 8 Traits of Top Producers, by Rod Santomassimo, a CRE brokerage coach. We got a little insight from Tom himself—one of Atlanta's most renowned agency brokers—on the traits that got him mentioned in an actual hardcover. ?I think more like an owner,? he says, ?versus just being an order taker.? Tom starts work as early as 3:30am (when we sometimes finally get to bed here at Bisnow) and says he tries to be open and candid with landlords, even when he recommends they overlook a potential lease deal.

Here's the book. Some things you won't find in there about Tom are his views on Grubb & Ellis' recent bankruptcy and sale to BGC Partners, the owners of Newmark Knight Frank. While he was mum on many of the details of how it will affect the local office, Tom says he feels BGC is a better fit for Grubb & Ellis than C-III, but declined to elaborate more on the current situation.
During our mingle at New York Prime, we chatted with other CRE notables, including: Grubb & Ellis executive managing director Brett ?Mr. Shmooze? Hunsaker (who called Tom ?one of the hardest working brokers in the business?); CBRE's  Leigh Martin; and a surprise visit from this man here, Mike Crawford. We can now say Mike is formerly with RREEF, because he just last week took a job with TIAA-CREF, which owns such notable Atlanta towers as Concourse Corporate Center and Pinnacle in Buckhead. One CRE source noted that Mike was chosen for the TIAA-CREF post  among 400 candidates.
