INCENTIVIZING INCENTIVES

Georgia's General Assembly is beefing up the state's economic incentives for corporate relocations. That's the word from the Georgia Department of Commerce's  Elmer Stancil. He highlighted  House Bill 868, introduced last week, that would allow a tax credit for companies that create 15-plus jobs or pay 110% of the state wage average (right now, companies have to create at least 50 jobs at that level). Elmer was part of a Jones Lang LaSalle panel last week at the St. Regis in Buckhead. Other incentives being pushed by legislators include a  research and development tax credit  and eliminating the inventory tax  around the Savannah port.
