BIG SPEC NEWS AT SYMPOSIUM

Let the industrial spec games begin! We got word this morning that both Panattoni and Majestic Realty are going spec with  big box buildings somewhere in southside metro Atlanta.

The news is so fresh that renderings aren't available—but this isBisnow's concept. Our spies tell us that the news broke during an industrial panel at this morning's popular Databank Symposium, which included Jones Lang LaSalle's Chris Tomasulo  and Lavista Associates' Art Murray. The firms are said to be going spec given the huge tenant activity scouting the market, including Home Depot and Carter's baby clothier. (If you thought bonnets didn't need a lot of space, think again.) Panattoni's Mike Gray, via email, says nothing has been approved as of yet, though. Majestic would do Mac III in Union CIty (600k SF). The firm is currently pricing the project, says Majestic's  Stan Conway,  although nothing has been approved yet.

Also at the Databank Symposium, we snapped Cassidy Turley's Jonathan Gerrard, Invest Atlanta CEO Brian McGowan, and CT's Dale Lewis. Atlanta Mayor  Kasim Reed  says with Brian the city now has a  economic development coach.  Brian previously held an economic development job with CA Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. (And he's going to... pump us up. How could we resist?)

Forest City Enterprises' Jim Richardson (left, with Cousins Properties' Thad Ellis), who's head of the FIC (Forest City, Cousins, The Integral Group) Gulch development team, say the GDOT project to  transform the Gulch in to a mixed-use transit hub could  rival Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport  in terms of economic importance to the region. The duo was part of an office panel at the Databank Symposium, which was held at the Ahavath Achim Synagogue off Peachtree Battle.
