| Georgia's unemployment rate continues to exceed the nation. The Georgia Department of Labor reported this morning that Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 10% in June—the 33rd consecutive month it has exceeded the national rate, now 9.5%. There's a bit of good news—unemployment fell from 10.1% in May—but labor commissioner Michael Thurmond isn't seeing much silver lining. He says, ?Georgia's job market is showing signs of renewed deterioration. A sharp increase in the number of discouraged workers, rising long-term unemployment, increased new layoffs, and anemic job growth suggests that the fledgling economic recovery may be losing steam.? |
