Brooklyn Brewery Looking At Navy Yard Or Industry City For Relocation

Brooklyn Brewery could soon be leaving its iconic home in Williamsburg for the Brooklyn Navy Yard or Industry City.

The brewery is looking for up to 60k SF, a precaution because, when its current lease is up in 2025, “we know our ability to renew is zero,” firm COO and general manager Eric Ottaway told Crain's.

Williamsburg rents have soared in recent years amidst an influx of hip, well-off residents and the conversion of ever more warehouse space to office and retail.

Eric says the brewery is seeking a spot where it can brew beer, but also maintain the retail aspect and ability to show off the manufacturing facilities to the public, which has helped make the Brooklyn Brewery a borough institution.

Most of its beer is brewed at an upstate plant in Utica, which the firm is also seeking to relocate to Staten Island to take advantage of the city’s ports as it seeks to grow its overseas business.

The firm has its eye on a $70M, 200k SF facility on the island’s west side. [Crain’s]
