Bisnow: What keeps you in commercial real estate and what makes you want to come to work each day?

Kate Bicknell: The incredible people I work with and the opportunity to develop transformational projects that deliver remarkable experiences and spaces for both tenants and for the surrounding community. I joined Oxford Properties in May to build the NY Development platform, beginning with the redevelopment of St. John’s Terminal

It’s a nearly 1.3M SF office building in Hudson Square, and it’s unlike anything else in the market. It’s the type of project that will become a model for future developments, and we couldn’t be more excited about it.

Bisnow: Have you had mentors over your career? Who are they and what influence did they have?

Bicknell: MaryAnne Gilmartin and Stephen Lefkowitz. They’re both remarkable people who are brilliant, strategic and wonderfully human. They’ve been partners and sounding boards for me throughout my career, and I will forever be grateful for their support and advice.

Bisnow: What's the one thing you would change about the industry and why?

Bicknell: I’m excited to see how technology changes every aspect of our industry from acquisitions to design and construction to operations and experiential placemaking. I think technology will transform our business and the projects we deliver, and I’m thrilled to see and to be part of it.
