STROLLING WITH THE STARS
Tom Brokaw and Mary Ann Tighe, 2010
The ninth annual Strolling Supper with Blues and News is coming up Nov. 16 at Gotham Hall. Tom Brokaw (above, at last year's event with CBRE's Mary Ann Tighe) and Brian Williams are honorary chairmen, and Bill Ritter will be the emcee. The blues part: Nashvillian and Grammy winner Delbert McClinton will play the event, which benefits Joan’s Legacy: Uniting Against Lung Cancer, an organization formed in memory of Mary Ann's sister, non-smokerJoan Scarangello.
Joe Moinian and Roxanne Donovan, 2010
Joan is also the sister-in-law of Great Ink Communication's Roxanne Donovan (above, with The Moinian Group's Joe Moinian at last year's event), who's married to Joan's brother, Thornton Tomasetti CEO Tom Scarangello. (We're still working on the Kevin Bacon connection.) Roxanne tells us the foundation funded 12 $100kresearch grants last year and hopes to raise enough to fund at least 10 this year. It's got 157 proposals (twice last year's pool) and will make decisions in the spring. She says federal budget cuts (at the National Institutes of Health, for example) have sent researchersscrambling for money. Tickets are available at 212-627-5500 or here. There's also a silent auction. Roxanne's favorite item so far: the right to name a character in an upcoming Sue Grafton novel. Or perhaps the Vespa.
