Amazon Denies Plans For 2,000 Grocery Store Expansion

Amazon says it has no plans to open 2,000 grocery stores, contradicting reports made Monday that those are exactly the firm’s plans.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the e-commerce giant plans to open more than 2,000 brick-and-mortar grocery stores in three different formats, according to those familair with the situation, depending on the success of its test locations. However, Amazon issued a statement Wednesday saying it has “no plans to open 2,000 of anything. Not even close. We are still learning.”

Yet, even after the statement, the same people familiar with the matter confirmed Amazon's plans to do just that, which the Wall Street Journal mentioned at the end of the piece. [WSJ]
