Mort Zuckerman, who co-founded Boston Properties in 1970, will be stepping down next month after the company’s annual election of trustees.

Mort and co-founder Ed Linde built Boston Properties into the mammoth REIT it is today, with 46.5M rentable SF across 168 commercial properties.

Mort’s prolific business success doesn’t stop there, he is also a media mogul. He owns the New York Daily News, US News and World Report, and is the former owner of the Atlantic Monthly as well, Bloomberg reports.

In honor of his “long and dedicated service,” Mort will be named chairman emeritus and still be able to attend board meetings, according to a statement by the REIT. [Bloomberg]
