Murdoch's News Corp, 21st Century Fox May Make WTC Move

Media behemoths News Corp and 21st Century Fox are mulling a move to Silverstein Properties' 2 World Trade Center, which will be the fourth and final skyscraper to rise on the WTC site once it tops out at 88 stories. The companies, both owned by Rupert Murdoch, have been discussing a Lower Manhattan relocation for months with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and storied developer Larry Silverstein, government and real estate sources told Charles Bagli of the New York Times.

Murdoch's firms would follow in the footsteps of HarperCollins, Time Inc. and, most notably, Conde Naste in shifting New York's traditional media hub from Midtown to what is less and less frequently referred to as the Financial District. The tenants would also require substantial revisions to the Norman Foster-designed building in order to house TV studios on its base floors. [NYT]
