Developers Now Planning Two Hilton Brands For SoBro Hotel

Placeholder

Wilka Downtown, which owns a site in SoBro on which it plans to develop a new hotel, wants to modify its plans to include a Tru by Hilton and a Home2 Suites (an extended-stay brand) in the same 10-story building. The property, which would have about 233 rooms, would split them roughly evenly between the two concepts. Tru by Hilton (lobby pictured) is Hilton's brand that seeks younger travelers who want a relatively inexpensive hotel room.

Previously, Wilka Downtown had been mulling an ultra-luxury brand for the site, the Nashville Business Journal reports, after paying $2.6M for the half-acre site two years ago. The thinking now is that a lot of the new supply coming online in the next few years—about 4,000 rooms are underway or planned for SoBro—will be more expensive properties, so a Tru by Hilton and a Home2 Suites will be competitive for travelers who don't want to pay expense-account prices. The hotels would open in 2018. [NBJ]
