More From the View

Los Angeles Office

Yesterday, we brought you some expert comments from Allen Matkins' big View From the Top event in Beverly Hills. Before the program, we chatted with Hudson Pacific CEO Victor Coleman, who told us the company will break ground next week on a 400k SF office project in Hollywood at the Sunset Bronson Studios site. Aimed at media and entertainment tenants, the project includes a 300k SF office building and a 90k SF production building, plus a parking structure. (It makes sense—trying to find our car is always a production.)

Allen Matkins partner Tony Natsis (right, with Kilroy Realty's John Kilroy) soared through emcee duties unscathed, unless it took a few inches off his 6' 3" frame. (He doesn't use the Knee Defender but flies on Virgin, "because you can upgrade and sit in an exit row.") Outside work, Tony's wife Demetra works daily on the remodel of their house, while daughter Marialexa is a starting middle blocker on Amherst College's volleyball team. Older son Niko graduated from Michigan, is engaged, and working on a mobile app. Younger son George, a junior at Michigan, is in a fraternity and "having the world's best time."

Hines' Paul Paradis says the company is in "heavy execution mode" on development (one big example: Salesforce tower in San Francisco)—so it's getting cautious, particuarly for large-scale transactions. Kilroy's Mike Sanford says the company jumped on Mission Bay at the right time—just before the Warriors announced plans for a new arena there. McCourt Global's Ryan Kirkpatrick says the young company founded by ex-Dodgers owner Frank McCourt in 2012 wants to hook up with skilled development partners, preferably ones willing to co-invest. Swift Real Estate Partners' Christopher Peatross recently founded a fund focused on West Coast industrial and office properties.

During the cocktail reception, we found Cassidy Turley's Dan Broderick and EVOQ Properties Marty Caverly.

We also snapped this dynamic trio: CBRE's Tom Bohlinger, IDS Real Estate's David Saeta, and Griffin Capital's Mike Escalante.

And here's Spyglass Realty Partners' Rich Mayo chatting with Allen Matkins' Rich Mallory.
