Baylor College of Medicine and CHI St. Luke’s Hospital plan to start construction on a second patient tower in early 2016 at their Baylor St. Luke’s McNair Campus near the Texas Medical Center.

The new tower will house 420 beds and an MOB, spread over 1.2M SF. The patient tower will break ground in January, and the MOB is slated for a fall start. The new complex will be complete in 2019, according to the Houston Business Journal.

In total, the new hospital will accommodate 650 beds and feature ambulatory services, operating rooms, labs and office space for clinicians. HKS is architect of record for the tower; the team hasn't selected development partners for the MOB.

The new hospital will eventually replace the existing CHI St. Luke’s hospital, which was built in 1954 and is outdated.

A primary focus of the Baylor-St. Luke’s JV is creating a comprehensive cancer center. [HBJ]
