Hobby Beautification Project Set To Start In Spring

A far-reaching project to beautify the Hobby Airport area has been given the green light. Scenic Houston plans to spend about $7.5M to enhance the visual appeal of a two-mile stretch of Broadway Street connecting Hobby Airport and I-45. Work will begin in spring 2016 and be completed by the end of the year.

The project will add 410 live oaks and other trees that will provide shade and add beauty to the corridor. Upgraded street lights, enhanced crosswalks and cohesive landscaping will also help spruce up the neighborhood, giving visitors to the Bayou City an attractive and welcoming first impression.

This effort is the final element of several projects to revitalize the area. The Houston Airport System is expanding Hobby Airport, including a new $253M international terminal and concourse, and a new parking structure with more than 3,000 spaces.

Additionally, the existing Broadway Street is being rebuilt, and landscaping improvements will continue on a long-term basis.

The timing for completion of all of these projects coincides with the 2017 Super Bowl.
