Meet Amy Hansen, Denver CREW Prez

Denver Other

Early in her legal career, Otten Johnson Robinson Neff & Ragonetti partner Amy Hansen realized that real estate law was for her. It’s results-driven, and there are tangible results, she tells us. “It means helping a client build something out of nothing,” she says. (Previously the only industry where you could make something from nothing was wizardry, so this is probably a better option.)

Amy’s the 2014 president of CREW Denver, having been involved with the organization for the better part of a decade. CREW’s important for the same reasons as any professional org: making professional connections, offering education, and throwing good parties. But it’s more than that, Amy tells us. Even now, commercial real estate is still largely male, and an organization like CREW gives members a chance to raise their profile in the industry locally, and nationally, as members of CREW Network. (And they're able to do that while still throwing great parties.)

Amy’s profile in the industry’s pretty high already. She’s well-known for her work with developers on the creation of governance structures for resort, TODs, and master-planned communities, and is an expert on the Colorado Common Interest Ownership Act (CCIOA), which governs condos, coops, and planned communities in the state. Snapped: Amy and the Denver CREW board.

Most recently, Amy was involved in the ongoing effort to address the state's construction defects law, working with Sen. Jessie Ulibarri on legislation for a CCIOA-based approach. Though the effort didn’t succeed this time around, Amy says that reform efforts will return soon, because problems with current law are preventing condo development. “The issue's important to our clients, but also important for the metro area and the state to have a full range of new housing options,” she says. Snapped: the CREW crew from the 2014 River Sweep project. (There's a lot of work to do people, so stop playing around in the leaves.)
