Cool Cars: Jim Darrow

Chicago Multifamily

Essex Realty Group principal Jim Darrow bought this ’65 Cadillac DeVille convertible this summer. “It’s triple black and reminds me of something Johnny Cash would drive, so I named it CASH after the man in black,” he tells us. His first car was a ’77 Pontiac Trans Am he bought senior year of high school. It was white with beige vinyl interior and had the gold firebird on the hood (very '80s, Smokey and the Bandit). Jim just sold 12-unit 1035 W Diversey in Lincoln Park for $6M and six-unit 1512 N Wood in Wicker Park for $3M to a NY buyer in a 1031 exchange. Jim and his partner Jordan Gottlieb repped the seller, JAB Real Estate, and Essex’s Doug Imber and Kate Varde repped the trade buyer.
