The city is expected to green light the Chicago Blackhawks' $11.7M purchase of the old Malcolm X College campus at today's City Council meeting. The sale will pave the way for the Blackhawks to begin building a $62M practice facility and community center, steps from the United Center.

The sale price is $8.7M, with another $3M earmarked for free ice time, skating lessons and equipment for residents for five years at the new 125k SF building, once it opens, Crain's reports.

The Blackhawks were expected to break ground on the project last month. Malcolm X College moved into a brand-new campus across the street. [Crain's]
