The city has expanded its "Large Lots" program into the Pullman and Roseland neighborhoods on the Far South Side. Applications will be accepted for 286 lots in Pullman, and 20 in Roseland, from today through Oct. 31. The program sells these vacant lots to individuals and nonprofit organizations that already own property on the same blocks as the vacant land, provided the prospective owners promise not to sell the land for a five-year period, and adjacent lots be fenced to keep criminals out. The program launched last year with the sale of 276 lots in Englewood and 154 lots in East Garfield Park. Over 400 applications were received. The third Large Lot program, in Austin, closed in January and applications will be reviewed by City Council Sept. 17. [Trib]
