Alibaba Chairman Seeking Chicago Business

Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma

With China’s economy showing signs of slowing, Alibaba Group Holdings founder/CEO Jack Ma is coming to America to encourage businesses to use his e-commerce web portal to reach China’s middle class, and Chicago is one of the cities in which Ma will make his pitch. Ma will meet with American Express CEO Ken Chenault and 300 business owners at a town hall-style meeting June 10. He also has a meeting planned with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, according to Crain’s Chicago. China’s economy is projected to grow at its slowest pace in 25 years, and Ma believes China’s middle class is an untapped market for American businesses. Rahm also sees exports to China as a source of job growth. [CC]
