Mission BBQ Readies Stores In Annapolis, Ellicott City

A rapidly growing Howard County BBQ restaurant is eating into new territory this summer.

Mission BBQ will soon open new stores in downtown Annapolis and Ellicott City, co-owner Bill Kraus says. The restaurant will occupy prime waterfront real estate at City Dock in Annapolis, at 142 Dock St, June 27. It’s in the former Stevens Hardware store.

The Ellicott City location is expected to open mid-July in the former Shanty Grille spot, at the intersection of Plumtree Drive and Route 40.

The Ellicott City store received a beer and wine license from the Howard County liquor board last month. It totals 5,500 SF inside and nearly 1k SF on its patio. It will be the third store in Anne Arundel and second in Howard. Its other Howard County store is in Columbia.

It also has locations in suburban Annapolis and Glen Burnie. Patriotism and a commitment to veterans, firefighters and other service personnel are as much a part of the Mission BBQ brand as its smoked brisket, pulled pork and baby back ribs. It began expanding two years ago and now operates 27 restaurants in seven states.
