Harkins To Move Corporate HQ At The End Of This Year

Harkins Builders is moving its corporate HQ to Columbia, MD, at the end of 2016. The company has signed a lease with Howard Hughes Corp for the fourth floor at 60 Columbia Corporate Center, which is at 10490 Little Patuxent Pkwy in Columbia. Also known as Park Square, the 120k SF office structure was built by Harkins and is one of a dozen commercial projects the company has built in Columbia.

“This move is the result of our success, our growth, and some dynamic strategic initiatives we’ve been developing over the last three years,” says Harkins president and COO Gary Garofalo. “We’re very excited about coming to Columbia, which is growing and is located perfectly for us to engage with our clients and business partners. Our new space will reflect our new market-based corporate structure."

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman points out that Tom Harkins built much of Jim Rouse’s multifamily housing in Columbia back in the 1960s and '70s, and that he's excited to see the firm become part of Columbia's downtown.

Harkins’ current lease expires in December at the Georgian-style building in Marriottsville, MD, it has occupied since 2001. Gary says the space has served them well, although the new one better reflects "our vision of who we are in 2016, and who we can become as the company continues to grow.”

The Verve Partnership is handling space planning and design duties, and build-out will be performed by Harkins’ commercial group. The company expects to make the move between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Harkins Builders will maintain its Northeast Office in Media, PA, and its Tysons Office in McLean, VA.
