Atlanta

That's right. Sources tell us Daimler luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz could be moving its domestic HQ from Montvale, NJ, to somewhere in metro Atlanta.

If the deal happens, it could be one of Georgia's most high-profile economic development coups in recent years, and potentially add hundreds of jobs to the Atlanta economy. JLL is said to be leading the search efforts in Atlanta. Officials did not return calls seeking comment, but sources say the move could see Mercedes-Benz develop an HQ campus exceeding 300k SF. Officials with Mercedes-Benz also declined to comment.

There have been quite a few rumors and even moves by Mercedes-Benz in recent months on the real estate front. According to The Signal Tribune this past summer, the automaker announced plans to develop a consolidated West Coast campus in vacant aircraft hangars at Long Beach Airport, a move that would consolidate 200 jobs from Irvine and Carson into a 1.1M SF facility. And in September, Mercedes-Benz expanded production at its Tuscaloosa plant to incorporate its new C-Class line, as reported by Area Development. That was followed in November, by rumors reported in Savannah Business Journal that the company would move its HQ to the Georgia coast or even Florida. It's unclear as of press time whether other cities are in the running outside of Atlanta, but some sources tell us Central Perimeter has been on the company's radar.
