Last night we also went to Taste of Entrepreneurship as BUILD DC hosted its first annual gala at Union Market. Chef José Andrés was honored with the Innovation in Entrepreneurship Award; we snapped him bookended by Valerie Parker and Netcito's Peter Mellen.
Over $150k was raised for BUILD Metro DC, which operates the region’s largest youth business incubator, where more than 40 student business teams operate their enterprises. Last year, the Catalogue for Philanthropy named it One of the Best Local Charities in the DC area. Here, J.P. Morgan’s Courtney Straus, Hayden Broberg and Rachel Breindel.
At a cocktail reception before dinner, we met incredible young entrepreneurs and learned about their businesses and products. BUILD serves 300 students at six DC high schools. Here, Teach For America’s Coury Shadyac with J.P. Morgan’s Christopher Kiple and Hillary Zelnick.
The gala featured bites from around the city and a live auction. Here, Dept of Transportation and Environmental Services’ Sandra Marks, BUILD Metro DC exec director Bryce Jacobs and Capital One’s Ron Kaplan.
